The Gold Toilet Heist: What Went Wrong?

I guarantee most people have never heard of the theft of Maurizio Cattelan’s $6 Million Gold Toilet Sculpture. Now what exactly went wrong here? To start, four men were charged in this gold toilet heist, whereas our buddies in LA got away in a $30 million robbery!

Contrary to what you might imagine, a golden toilet weighs less than $30 million. At one time I only had to carry 5 million in cash after a long lucky night.

Imagine for a second, who would even want to buy an 18-carat gold functional toilet? What would be the first place you would think about selling this?

Golden Toilet Heist: Don’t Get Caught

It must be said, “Don’t Get Caught!” because some people forget that part of a heist.

Stealing toilets is not a skill I have ever picked up or ever needed to learn. Getting away with it, I do know something about (allegedly).

There’s no way to see a clear description from grainy CCTV footage alone. It’s safe to assume that someone’s ego got too big and needed to brag about the golden toilet sitting in their living room.

I am not immune to bragging about an accomplishment. This urge to brag about something used to bubble up on my nights out about a new project that’s been going very well.

After some training, like a thought, the urge to do some bragging disappears.

The lesson, if you brag to anyone about your new golden toilet, then it will not end well.

How Much Preparation Goes Into Stealing A Golden Toilet?

Stealing a golden toilet, just like stealing 30 million dollars, takes tremendous amounts of preparation to accomplish.

These guys did a great job planning for the heist of this golden toilet but did not do well in the getting away part. With that said you must prepare for the end to end of the heist and that includes the long term getting away.

I’ve fallen into the trap of being short sightedness in my early days of everything. Although I was very short term thinking in my early days, I am doing well now.

Goes to show you that even if you’re not prepared for the long haul early on, you can still be okay.

It all starts with preparation, you start with all the small things you know need to be done. Next is to figure out what the end goal is and finally figure out the in between.
