It’s always on my Uber rides out to meet up my friends when I remind myself to be grateful. Most of my Uber rides I’m never on my phone, I strike up a conversation with the driver.
I can sense someone isn’t interested in talking because they will give an initial short response. Staying off my phone and having a genuine interest in who my driver is, helps me stay grounded.
Here is the example of how I stay grateful. On my rides, inevitably, I will hear sirens from an ambulance or a police car.
The first thought I have is, “Whoever that’s for, that’s unfortunate”. My next thought is “I am so grateful I am in an Uber ride to go have a good time with friends, family, or strangers”.
Be grateful for your health
Since I could remember I saw my older cousin deal with major health issues that caused long spells of hospital stays.
At some point, I would hear the sirens and think of the people who instead of going out for a great time, are on their way to a hospital. The people will be lucky to spend one night there.
Life is passing by without a notice for most people, until they are forced to stop. It’s usually a health issue, if you’re lucky the lose of a loved one is quick and of natural causes.
I’ve had multiple family and friends with terrible prolonged health issues leading to weeks, months, and sometimes years of suffering.
Why you must learn to be grounded and grateful
Because of my experiences, I’ve made it a conscious effort to be grounded and present with people.
It’s essential you learn to be grounded so that you’re in the moment with experiences and people. You must learn to be grateful so that when you have to say goodbye you’re don’t feel that you’ve taken someone for granted.
Many people will be wishing they spent more time being in the moment with their loved one.
As July 4th approaches ensure you’re grateful that you’re on your way to hang with friends and not to the hospital. You must be grounded and in the moment with everyone and genuinely interested everyone that you meet (you should be talking to everyone).
Keep it real, G.
