“I am leaving the United States because of what the current administration is doing.” You’ve seen this on TikTok or Instagram more than once and what’s your immediate thought?
I met someone who quit their job and their next step is to move to another country. Wow, what makes someone make a drastic life change?
There is so much added risk by making the move and my only hope is that they had gamed this scenario out.

What pushes someone to move out of the United States?
With so many variables at play, what was the action of the administration that impacted this person directly? So much so that they quit their job and is moving to another country.
I picture someone fleeing their country because it’s being bombed, government is seizing private property, or genocide. I remember first watching “Hotel Rawanda” and I couldn’t believe that happened in 1994.
It’s hard for me to wrap my head around someone’s thought process, when a someone makes a dramatic change.
Is moving away from the United States a recent thing?
I hardly heard anyone in the early 00’s make statements about leaving the United States. Even after 9/11, I never heard someone say it was too dangerous to stay in the United States.
It’s obvious with social media, you can reach more people that will make such statements. Majority won’t act on it and are looking for attention and exposure. Many will like and comment in support of their idea to move.
Good for them, if they actually pull the trigger.
The thought process doesn’t make sense to me and that’s why I am writing about it.
I think people stopped being grateful in majority of the cases. You don’t like the administration (which has no direct impact on you) and love living in the United States. Both Statements can be true, although can feel like conflicting ideas.
