When I was younger, I had a relative who had a near death experience. Naturally, I thought that because they overcame such an ordeal, it was like a second chance at life. However, I was disheartened after some time. Their life choices did not change. In particular, they did not take their health more seriously.
I did not think I would ever meet another person who would get another chance. But since I am a social person and easily spark conversations with strangers, I would hear firsthand accounts of people’s near death experiences.
As a result, I immediately wanted to ask, “So what did you do with your second chance?” Yet I never did. I knew that nine out of ten times, nothing changed in their life. That would have stirred up unwanted negative emotions. It also would have made for an awkward Uber drive.

Rockbottom
I thought having a near death experience was suppose to be the bottom of rockbottom. Turns out it’s not the case for everyone. For some it means hitting rockbottom a few times to realize you have a second chance.
Most stay at Rockbottom and never realize they’re are getting many second chances at life. The streets of major cities are littered with those living in rockbottom, not realizing each time they don’t overdose is another chance being gifted.
How do you know you were gifted a second chance?
The thought that there are different timelines where there’s a version of you with opposite outcomes isn’t unbelievable. The times where I took a stupid action and the best case scenario happened, I would think there is a different timeline where I went to prison or dead.
I know I was given a second chance to do make a change. I immediately feel grateful that best case scenario happened for me and I am free.
Next time you make a stupid decision and luckily make it out unscathed, be grateful and self aware that you got a second chance. Most people don’t realize it and do nothing with it.
