It’s been a while since, I’ve been to Los Angeles and I had a chance to visit a friend. I was spending a lot of time in LA while I was going to school here. All I really knew about LA was the downtown city area, so I didn’t know that Hollywood was LA but a different part (yes I was very new).
I landed an internship one summer at the court house in DTLA and spent my afternoons wondering around to wait out traffic. I know what a lot of people say about LA, but I’ve never had a bad experience there.
This is how I made the most of my summer in the City Of Angeles.

Los Angeles – Art’s District
The Art’s District is about 10 min drive from downtown LA that was a small hub of restaurants and bars. I had never heard anyone bring this little neighborhood up. As a college student this was the perfect place to finish homework and have a drink.
I quickly became a regular at The Art’s District Brewing Company that served food and had great beers. The bar top had a heavy rotation of new people, so every new person ordering at the bar became another chance to practice my social skills.
Getting comfortable is a trap, so even though I had became friends with the bartenders here, I wanted to explore.
Death and Company was my next favorite place to visit because of the intimate space. Perfect place to slow down the night when you find a companion to share the rest of your night with.
Los Angeles – Downtown
Most people hate on Downtown LA, for good reason, outside of the Staples Center area it’s pretty dirty. None the less my favorite thing to do is to wonder the streets of Downtown LA, it’s always fun talking to strangers.
The night life in downtown LA is not the same as going out in downtown Portland. You’ll see LA live (Staples Center) area and have a bunch of higher end places commercial places to eat. My favorite I would visit because a part from the drinks was The Wolves.
The Wolves wasn’t too far from the courthouse so we could walk over and leave our cars in the paid for parking lot. Next place would be the classic Golden Gopher, because it’s one of the oldest bars in LA, there will always be a fresh rotation of people to meet.
Downtown LA, has bars like this that are always recommend to tourists to visit just like Seven Grand. If you know how to play pool, then you will can jump into a few games and easily get into a group solo.
Los Angeles – Hollywood
Hollywood isn’t far from Downtown Los Angeles and that’s what I like about overall Los Angeles. The stories in Hollywood I’ll save for another post.
You should be visiting Los Angeles if you can as a regular person with genuine open connections. Being here now reminds me of the time I spent with my intern friends, who I dragged out because they weren’t adventurous. I am sure it’s been some of their most fun times because it was a high risk going out for them.
I’ll write part two next time, including the playboy mansion party.
